Safety and Mutimedia Equipment in the Library

Safety and Mutimedia Equipment in the Library

Here are some simple safety  issues that you need to be aware of when using multimedia equipment here at Open Book Library and anytime you are using electrical equipment. Multimedia equipment includes but is not limited to, computers, printers, photocopiers, add on devices such as  speakers, hard drives, projectors and even personal devices like phones, tablets and laptops. These tips can be used at Work, school and even at home. If you notice any hazards or safety concerns while in the library please notify staff immediately.

Do not overload the power points or adaptors.

Overloaded power points can cause electrical damage to equipment, possible electrocution or even an electrical fire. Only use the approved and tagged power boards and cables that are plugged into the socket and do not add any additional adaptors
.

Beware of exposed wires and damaged cables.

Ensure that there are no exposed wires on any power cords, adaptors and electrical cables. This includes cables for charging personal devices and headphones. If you notice any damaged cables or exposed wires please report it a library staff member straight away. Do not touch any exposed wires as this could result in an  electric shock or burn.

Do not eat or drink near any electrical equipment.

Liquid spills can start a fire and cause extensive damage to electrical equipment. They can also make a sticky messy. Please be respectful of other users by not consuming food or drink near any of the library's equipment.

Take care when lifting and reaching.

Ask for assistance if resources are heavy or difficult to access/reach.
Please do not stand on furniture to reach things. Do not move any library equipment without permission.  Lifting heavy items or over stretching can result in strains, falls and serious injuries

Keep workspaces and access ways clear from trip hazards and obstructions at all times.

Remember to keep access ways and main areas clear at all times Please do not leave bags, equipment or other items on the ground where they could be a trip hazard or an obstruction. Ensure all cords are tucked away neatly and safely, and ensure any equipment being used is not obstructing entry and exit points or pathways. Always keep your work area clean and tidy to avoid any unnecessary accidents or injuries.
